In 2011 I was privilged to have my design firstly nominated by IABA and subsequently chosen by Monaghan County Council for a permanent piece of public art in the town centre. The 'Hive of Knowledge' -4m high, 2.5 tonne hive structure in mild steel, was created and built by me, and designed to hold panels of artwork designed by 15 other blacksmiths, who, along with hundreds more, attended the international blacksmiths forge-in hosted in Monaghan town in June 2011 by Monaghan county council in conjunction with IABA and BABA. The artwork panels were made and attached to the Hive during the 3 day event, which was an outstanding success attended by both irish blacksmiths and international masters such as Francisco Gazitua (Chile),Tom Joyce (USA), Martin Breidenbach (Germany) , Takyoshi Komine (Japan), Stephane Chevalier (France), Stephen Lunn (England), Adam Booth (Scotland), and Jim Horrobin (England).
